The venture

Team Sportex is a sports coaching company. It was set up with the intention of providing Physical Education and sports provisions to people, especially younger students in schools, organisations & charities.

The challenge – what inspired your venture

I studied for a sports coaching degree at University and have been coaching for a while. I wanted to ensure students were provided with high quality sports provision and both a fun and positive experience whilst participation in sports. As most people are aware, obesity, inactivity and a sedentary lifestyle is on the rise in this country and across the world. It is essential that children are provided with a great experience when taking part in sports in order to give them the best possible chance of continuing to stay active into and throughout adulthood.

I wanted to start my own sports coaching business for a number of years, but I didn’t have the experience or knowledge surrounding start-ups. I thought it was important to gain additional information from workshops and events in order to give myself the best possible chance of success – the sports industry is growing but in terms of coaching, a rather crowded sector and the workshops and 1-1 sessions helped to identify potential opportunities and threats.

The result – how the programme helped

The programme helped me to create a business plan and understand different concepts. It was also a great opportunity to network with other people with business ideas or an existing business (fully operational business).

Despite it being very small at the moment, I have successfully launched my business and have been working with my first client for a number of months.

I now need to spend a lot more time on sales and marketing my business in order to create greater awareness and interest.

“I have successfully launched my business and have been working with my first client for a number of months.”
