The Business
A multi award-winning charity that supports families with children that have additional needs, disabilities & life-limiting conditions – specialising in providing guidance, support, activities, training & safe places.
The challenge
As a charity, it’s often a real challenge to have access to good solid business advice. The challenges we face are quite different to your typical business and trading can be seen as a dirty word in the non-profit sector.
Often when attending business events, it can feel quite commercial & sales-focused – this can feel awkward and there is always the extra challenge of not only delivering our charitable aims, but also ensuring we have an organisation which is commercially viable and sustainable for the long term.
The result – how the programme helped
Having completed the Grow Your Business programme, I felt better informed about the business decisions I needed to make to grow our charity and also understand the important factors needed to protect our long-term sustainability.
I had an amazing Allia coach who guided me along on the journey and the icing on the cake was the provision of a mentor to work with me after the course was completed. My mentor was fabulous and shared some invaluable insights from his background which helped immensely with my confidence and leadership skills – he also had experience from within the charity sector, which really helped to shape our experience.
Any social enterprise or charity would be well advised to talk to Allia about the support they can bring to support the long-term sustainability of their organisation. I’d certainly recommend them and the mentor is a real bonus!”
