Meet the brains behind Mind Data

Founder of Mind Data pitching at Demo Day

We spoke to Sean Ruane, founder of Mind Data (and member of our Impact Accelerator alumni) about his impact venture, why he joined the Allia Accelerator and explored how the programme helped him on this start-up journey.

Sean, tell us more about your venture, Mind Data

Mind Data is a digital platform helping to manage mental health support from start to finish. We’re on a mission to improve the lives of one million people, by providing digital tools and insights that strengthen the bond between clients and mental health practitioners whilst improving the effectiveness of therapy.

What inspired your venture?

Mind Data was born from my personal struggle with suicidal depression in 2015, fuelling my desire to address the global mental health crisis and positively impact one million people around the world.

What challenges were you facing that encouraged you to join Allia’s Accelerator?

As a first-time solo entrepreneur, I faced a few challenges, including business planning, fundraising, pitching and building a network of like-minded founders – this is all stuff the Allia Accelerator seemed to address, so I hopped on the application and applied!

How did the Impact Accelerator help you on your journey?

The Allia Impact accelerator programme provided amazing support in business planning, fundraising and pitching, while connecting me with an inspiring community of entrepreneurs. Through the programme I not only secured investment, hired a Chief Psychology Officer but have partnered with universities for projects and pilots.

As an impact venture, Mind Data has begun to make a positive difference in the lives of clients and practitioners. The progress and experiences throughout the programme have laid a strong foundation for growth and I hope a lasting impact on mental health worldwide.

Since the completion of the programme I have kept in touch with my incredible support network of founders and mentors and also keep in touch with the Allia team. I continue to grow my team (I’ve just recruited a marketing manager!) and have also been welcomed back to be a guest speaker at some of the Allia events where I can share my story with their network and other aspiring founders.

“I’m incredibly grateful for the amazing support and experiences I’ve had during the Allia Impact accelerator programme. The mentors and staff were fantastic, providing invaluable guidance on my journey. I cherish the close-knit group of founders I met and continue to stay in touch with them. I wholeheartedly recommend it to every aspiring entrepreneur seeking growth, meaningful connections and exceptional mentorship.” – Sean Ruane, founder of Mind Data.
