The challenge – what inspired your venture

Thor created First Aid for Feelings when they were ill and realised that they didn’t have these essential skills which was hindering their recovery. Thor recovered and went on to train in the field of physical, mental and social health. Shocking statistics about the personal and social costs of stress, pain, fatigue and anxiety centre our efforts and spur us on every day.

The Helpful Clinic was launched in December 2015 with the help of Cambridge Social Ventures. At the time this programme was located at the Future Business Centre in Cambridge. As the venture grew it made perfect sense to stay in the building. So, after using the co-working space for a while, we became a permanent tenant.

The impact

To date, we have supported over 3,200 people. Students of the workshops and courses consistently rate the training at 4.7/5. This includes over 600 people who have benefitted from one-to-one support to help them feel better physically, mentally and socially. Results from their improved self-care include being able to return to work, improving quality of life (in terms of activities and social connections) and a reduction in stress, pain, fatigue and anxiety.

Allia Future Business Centre has given us the space to flex and grow with our needs.  We’ve also been able to hold all workshops since 2015 in the centre which has been immensely beneficial both in terms of ease of access, and the great service for us.

“Skilled support and flexible facilities have made Allia Future Business Centre the perfect space for us to launch and grow The Helpful Clinic and First Aid for Feelings.”

Thor, founder of The Helpful Clinic
