Meet Marina, an Allia Programme Manager

Hear from our wonderful Programme Manager, Marina, who shares a bit more about her role at Allia, hobbies and some words of advice for those looking to join one of our programmes.

When did you join Allia and what attracted you to the role of programme manager?

I joined Allia back in April 2022. Being able to work with a diverse range of people who are solving society’s greatest challenges really appealed to me. I also saw that Allia and the team were very aligned with my own values. Everyone was welcoming from the start, and I truly appreciate working with such kind, wonderful people every day!

What does your role involve?

My role at Allia is incredibly varied, which means no two days are the same. I manage the ‘Start’ and ‘Grow’ programmes across Cambridgeshire, so I ensure we have a well-structured schedule of workshops and events that meet the needs of the social entrepreneurs we work with. As a coach, I also provide one-on-one personalised support to programme participants. Additionally, I play a role in building the Allia impact community, expanding our network, and gaining a deeper understanding of the support ecosystem for social entrepreneurs across Cambridgeshire. I also work closely with universities through internships.

What is most beneficial about the Start and Grow Programmes?

The ‘Start’ programme is for people who have an idea for an impact organisation and want to benefit their community. The programme provides an opportunity to validate their ideas, begin developing their business model, connect with like-minded people, and build a support network around them—an essential factor in the early stages of business development.

The ‘Grow Your Business’ programme is tailored for existing impact organisations. Over the years, we have worked with a diverse range of organisations across various sectors. Typically, participants join the programme when they’ve encountered a growth barrier and are looking for new ways to scale, diversify their revenue streams, and enhance sustainability.

The most beneficial aspect of joining the Allia programmes is the sense of community—feeling like people have your back and the increased confidence that comes with that.

How does Allia help to create a positive impact on people place and planet?

We try to help people at every stage of the journey, for the earliest stages all the way to when they are looking for spaces to expand their team. we are lucky that we have our Allia Future Business Centres, which enables us to build up a social impact community. We are facilitators, in helping people to follow their purpose and build businesses that solve societies challenges.

What do you enjoy doing outside of work?

In my free time, I love dancing, singing, listening to live music and going to concerts, as well as charity shopping and spending quality time with friends and family. Recently, I’ve started organising silent discos in nature. I’m passionate about music and dance because I see them as powerful ways to connect with others and build community.

Any words of advice for people who are interested in starting an impact business?

If you have a passion for something, it’s worth pursuing. Ultimately, it’s all about building relationships—the more you expand your network and cultivate those connections, the more opportunities will come your way.
