Green awards held at Allia Future Business Centre in Peterborough, to celebrate the region’s commitment to the environment

5,856 tonnes of C02e (carbon dioxide equivalent) is an impressive amount to save – it’s the same amount as cancelling 194 flights from London to New York. Yet this is how much C02e that eastern region members of Investors in the Environment (iiE) managed to save between them in the past year.

Last week we hosted the regional iiE awards at our Peterborough Future Business Centre, and celebrated as one of the many businesses that were formally accredited. The iiE national Green Accreditation Scheme helps businesses to achieve environmental certification, measuring them on how sustainable their business is and the initiatives they introduce for better eco-focussed processes and procedures. The event brought together around 60 attendees to celebrate the environmental achievements of the region’s businesses and showcase the latest eco initiatives.

Our centre in Peterborough was formally awarded with its ‘Green’ environmental accreditation – at the highest level of the national scheme – for its commitment to minimising environmental impact and widening its sustainable approach. Several other awards were presented on the night, and inspiring initiatives highlighted include zero waste week, electricity and carbon reduction schemes and CPD sustainability training sessions.

Allia’s commitment to environmental sustainability filters into every aspect of the organisation, through the ventures it supports and the buildings it works in, which are dedicated to sustainable practices throughout their running and management. At our Peterborough centre, a number of initiatives are in place that reduce the centre’s environmental impact – including a reusable cup loyalty scheme and a refill scheme to encourage reducing plastic waste, at the onsite bistro and bar. It was one of the first outlets in Peterborough to sign up to the refill scheme which allows members of the public to fill their water bottles for free.
